We prepared a show that intertwines dance, film and theater for the opening of the 25th Yapı Kredi Afife Theater Awards. Using digital screens and inspired by Afife’s story, we shot a film written by Ahmet Sami Özbudak. We combined the text written as a monologue with the choreography prepared by Ekin Bernay and turned it into a film in which Gizem Erdem gave life to Afife Jale.
After working on the monologue with the creative team, the dancers were formed, the rehearsal process began, which lasted several weeks. Simultaneously with the rehearsals, we started working on sound design and music. Our biggest advantage in the project was that we worked again with the team we worked with the previous year, and therefore we were a team that could act in sync with each other.
"There are four different disciplines here: Acting, choreography, directing and cinematography. Together, we made a great effort worthy of Afife’s spirit."
Ahmet Sami Özbudak, Writer
"My working method is based on creating together with dancers. That’s why we enter a creative process with our rehearsals and everyone puts their own feelings into the production."
Ekin Bernay, Performance Artist & Choreographer
