Through this film, About Nights was planning to address its target audience with a new motto: “You too fall in love”. In order to convey this message to the viewers, we created a flow focusing on the character transformation of our hero, a security guard not familiar with the world of About Night.
We aimed to disrupt his ordinary world and routines first with an external voice, and then, step by step, to include him in a party. A significant subtext of the film is censorship. In contrast with the voice-over, pictures, music, dance, and love are censored. In this contrasting world, an asterisk appears frequently on screen as the symbol of censorship. We kind of disturb the viewers with this ban. Ultimately our security guard breaks the asterisk and keeps the fun going uncensored.
We wanted to carry the brand’s character to a party setting. That’s why we used a voice-over to explain this new world, and the brand’s manifesto throughout the security guard’s discovery of the party.
Cinematographically, we used the brand’s colors in our lights. While using RGB color codes in About Nights setups, we aimed to create a cinematic look with a balance of warm and cold light in the preliminary world of the security guard.
“We wanted to reflect the reality of the world in the film. Regarding both acting and art direction, we simply went after the story, and stayed away from the elements that could alienate the viewers.”
